Meet the DX: Intern Megan Piluk

DX Intern Megan Piluk

Hello! My name is Megan Piluk and I am the Communication and Project Management intern at the Dance Exchange this summer. Ever since I saw the Dance Exchange perform The Matter of Origins at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland last fall I have been a huge fan of the company.

I am a rising junior at the University of Maryland and I major in dance and communication. I have been dancing since I was three years old and my love of dance has influenced my college activities. I am a Zumba and Yoga fitness instructor at the university and enjoy getting people pumped up and excited about moving. I also just made the university Dance Team so I am very excited to start on that dance journey.

Last summer I had the amazing opportunity to help organize and teach the So You Think You Can Dance flash dance mob on the National Mall in D.C. It was an unforgettable experience! I also have been very involved in the communication field. I was on the Communication Advisory Board for my dorm my freshman year and last year I was the Vice President of Communication for my dorm.

I am excited to have this opportunity to combine my passions for dance and communication as an intern here at the Dance Exchange. I have always loved informing people about the benefits of dancing so being able to help spread the message of a company that believes everybody can dance is a dream come true.

As an intern at the Dance Exchange I have been working on maintaining the social media of the company through Twitter, Facebook and through their website. I am working closely with the Teen Exchange and trying to help their fan base grow.  Besides working on the social media, I also have been taking the minutes at Inquiries, Dance Exchange’s weekly meeting to discuss future projects. Sitting in on these meetings has helped me to learn about all the upcoming events and inner-workings of the Dance Exchange. I also just completed an inventory of the office and that was a great way for me to get to know the company’s past.

One of the highlights of my internship at the Dance Exchange was attending the Celebration of Liz Lerman on June 25. The event was a celebration of her career and at the event I was able to meet people from other organizations who had been touched by Liz’s work. It was an amazing experience to see how intertwined and supportive the performing arts community is of each other and I love being a part of that special bond.

I’ll be writing more blog posts during my internship to keep you updated on everything going on at Dance Exchange this summer. Please visit www.danceexchange.org to learn more about the company and read about upcoming events.
