This week at HOME: “Climate Conversations”

Cassie (center) leads conference participants in a movement phrase

In December, Artistic Director Cassie Meador attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, where she was part of a team of observers from Initiatives of Change. Cassie will speak about her experience at the conference, and the role of artists in environmental policy and advocacy this Thursday night from 7-9pm at Dance Exchange.

In the meantime, please read this blog post by one of Cassie’s colleagues at the conference, Christa Hooper, who writes about a session Cassie led for other observers at their morning meeting. Cassie encouraged the participants to shut their computers, stand, and move through a short phrase generated from their responses to courageous acts they had witnessed at the conference. Christa writes:

“The energy shifted in the room and everyone on the front lines of civil society began the last 48 hours with a renewed sense of energy.  If only we had brought more movement into the official negotiations, then who knows what could have been possible!”
