  • This week at FRIDAY CLASS, a special treat! Nicole Martinell will visit from Baltimore to teach one class in our series. I've been wanting to have Nicole teach here at Dance Exchange since seeing her work around DC and Baltimore over the past few years, which features humor, idiosyncratic gestures, and lush phrases.

  • Hi! I’m Molly Barth, President of the Teen Exchange. On Sunday, March 4th, we had the chance to perform at Intersections: a New America Arts Festival. We met two other groups of young artists to share and critique our works-in-progress. The other groups, Voices of Now and Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League's (SMYAL) Youth Arts Ensemble shared their theater pieces with us.

  • We have had such incredible interns during the last year at Dance Exchange. (You can read about them here, here, and here.) And our current interns are no exception! We begin with Amanda Paulick, our Production Management Intern. During Amanda's third week at Dance Exchange, she helped assistant stage managed "lost, left, found & borrowed" at Roundhouse Theatre Silver Spring. She came upstairs with a costume to fix that had a very small tear in it, and said: "I know the audience won't notice this tear, but I will, and it will drive me crazy". That kind of attention and care for the very small details has made Amanda a huge asset to Dance Exchange this spring as we plan for local performances, and prepare for Cassie's upcoming 500-mile walk.

  • Dancer/teacher/choreographer/facilitator extraordinaire Wayles Haynes is teaching FRIDAY CLASS this month and we are thrilled to have her! Wayles' class always provides me with ample opportunity to challenge my movement patterns through exploring pathways, rhythm, and initiations, and I always enjoy the emphasis on finding efficiency and ease in the body even in complex phrase work.
