Other events at Dance Exchange studios

The Dance Exchange opens its doors (and studio space) to local teachers to spread their knowledge and love of dance, community, and the arts to our community. Our space is available for rent 7 days a week. Below are the classes and events currently being offered at Dance Exchange through our renters. Please directly contact the teachers or event coordinators listed for more information or to register for their classes.


Children’s Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet
Tuesdays Jan. 9 – Feb. 2/13: 9:30 – 10A M  (2-3 yr olds) &  3-3:45 PM (3-4 yr olds) 
Thursdays Jan. 11 – Feb. 15: 9:30-10:15 AM (3-4 yr olds) & 10:15-11 AM (3-5 yr olds)

The Art & Dance of Isadora Duncan for Children
Tuesdays 3:15-4:10PM (4-7 year olds) & 4:15-5:10PM (8-12 year olds), Sept. 5-Dec. 12

This fall Word Dance Theater offers seasonally-themed youth dance classes that explore the human experience within the natural world.  In embodying and dancing the beauty of autumn, our young dancers will bid farewell to summer, celebrate the harvest, and greet winter through improvisation and myth-based dances in the legacy of Isadora Duncan. Students will explore how the motions of water, wind, and trees inspire the natural movements of the human body while they learn to honor the dance within themselves and each other. This imaginative work will support the basic locomotor skills of skipping, leaping, and waltzing, and will foster individual and collective grace, honor, heroism, pride, and freedom. Zumbini with MiniMovers

Happy hour for you and your baby … a 45 min. movement session for newborns to 4 yrs. For caregiver and baby to sing, play learn, and bond. Designed for kids ages 0-4 and their caregivers, Zumbini combines music, dance and educational tools for 45-minutes of can’t-stop, won’t-stop bonding and fun.

A music
and movement program for stay at home parents/caregivers and nannys with children ages 0-4yrs old. This class promotes bonding time with your child while having fun!

Latin & Street Dance for ALL Levels & Ages with ProAm Dance Team
FREE Intro Class 9/30 at 3-4:30 PM; Classes  10/7 at 3-5 pM, then weekly on Saturdays 3-5 PM
Founded by multiple ballroom & Latin dance world champion, we are an exclusive dance company offering an opportunity to students of all levels and ages to practice together and perform at best NBA & NHL Games at Halftime alongside world’s best pro dancers as a group. We offer weekly classes and our TeamDC students are very welcome to join our other teams in NYC and Miami to perform together. Charismatic instructors, glam costumes and thousands of people in the audience and in front of TV… with you as the star of the show.

Intermediate Modern for Adults with Deborah Riley
Tuesdays 6:30 – 8pm, from September 12 – December 19, 2017
$18 per class (no credit cards, please)
Discover new movement possibilities and a richer movement experience. Grounded in Laban/Bartenieff fundamentals, the class begins with a floor warm up followed by standing exercises and movement phrases. Deborah Riley is a dancer, choreographer, educator and Director Emeritus of Dance Place. She’s a certified Laban Movement Analyst and was honored with the 2016 Pola Nirenska Lifetime Achievement Award.

$15 per class; $12 Students with valid ID; 10 classes for $135 with class card
KanKouran offers classes for children, teens and adults in the authentic dance and drumming styles of select West African cultural groups. An aerobic activity, dance classes include a warm-up and breakdown of dance steps, followed by choreographed routines accompanied by the drums.

Yin Yoga with Amirah
Thursdays starting October 5, 2017, 6 PM – 7 PM
Studio 3
Yin Yoga with Amirah classes are open to everyone.  No experience in yoga is needed. Yin yoga penetrates deep into the connective tissue expanding flexibility and aiding in healing while stimulating and loosening energetic blocks to increase the free flow of energy.  Essentially Yin yoga is a meditative approach with a physical focus that is deeper than more popular (Yang-like) yoga practices as poses are more passive, mostly on the floor and are held for 2-5 minutes each in a meditation state.  Come get more intimate with Self, sensations, emotions and feelings while healing your mind, body and soul!

Music Together Montgomery

Clothing and Shoes
Please wear whatever is comfortable to move in. We ask everyone to remove their shoes before entering the dance studios, and we provide cubbies outside of the studios for storing your shoes and other belongings.

We are located steps from Metro. Take the Red Line to Takoma. Exit the Metro station and continue straight on Carroll Avenue. At the second stop light just past Busboys & Poets, take a left on Maple Avenue. Dance Exchange is half a block down on your right. Come around to the back of the building to enter.

There is a small parking lot behind our building as well as metered parking spots in front of the Dance Exchange studio. You can park along Maple Avenue and in the surrounding neighborhood, but be mindful of the parking restrictions, as you may be ticketed.
