What is Takoma Park MOVES?

Takoma Park MOVES is a class for everyone! Join Dance Exchange artists to move with a mix of families, professionals, and community members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Bring your family, bring your neighbor, or just bring yourself! No experience necessary.

Class is led by Takoma Park MOVES Lead Artist Maggie Waller in collaboration with other Dance Exchange Partnering Artists. No pre-registration required; Drop in anytime.

What can I expect in Takoma Park MOVES?

Each Takoma Park MOVES class is different, but you can usually expect to…

  • Gather with and get to know the class participants

  • Move your body through physical and creative warm ups

  • Make dances individually, with a partner, or in a group, guided by a Dance Exchange artist

  • Share those dances and reflect with the group

Lead Artist: Maggie Waller

Maggie Waller is a dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Heavily involved in the local hip hop community, she pulls from various dance forms, such as Waacking, House, Locking, Breaking, Hip Hop, Postmodern Contemporary, and Tap in her performance work, choreography, and freestyle/battle practice. A graduate of Arizona State University, Maggie holds a BFA in Dance, Minor in Justice Studies, and two Certificates in Arts Entrepreneurship and Socially-Engaged Practice in Design and the Arts. She is a Fulbright Summer Institute Participant, a recipient of the Joan Frazer Memorial Award for Judaism and the Arts, and a published writer. Maggie currently lives in Washington, D.C., teaching and making, and is currently a core company member with Rennie Harris Puremovement.
