This Institute has concluded. Explore upcoming Institutes.

Experience the power and potential of intergenerational artmaking during Dance Exchange’s 2022 Organizing with Artists for Change (OAC) Winter Institute.

January 7-9, 2022 via Zoom

Update as of December 20: To keep our community healthy and safe during this latest Covid-19 surge, we are moving the 2022 Winter Institute entirely online.

Join movers, makers, artists, and leaders from communities near and far to explore tools and practices for collaborating and creating across generations. This Institute explores intergenerational collaboration through Dance Exchange’s creative tools and practices and introduces participants to artists and collaborators connected to our ongoing project, Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion.

As part of our Organizing with Artists for Change Initiative (OAC), Dance Exchange Institutes embrace process and performance, dialogue and dancemaking, and the role of artists as changemakers. The 2022 OAC Winter Institute will include movement classes and workshops that delve into creative tools and practices from Dance Exchange as well as our peers and collaborators. Facilitation of the 2022 OAC Winter Institute will rotate each day to include a range of voices and perspectives including Dance Exchange staff and partnering artists.

Technology Requirements

Participants will join sessions via Zoom, so a wifi-enabled device with a camera and microphone as well as a stable internet connection are necessary for meaningful participation. If you are interested in the Institute but are looking for alternative ways to participate based on your technology access and needs, please contact us.

Shula Strassfeld Memorial Scholarship

Each year, we award a scholarship to a Winter Institute participant in honor of Shula, a longtime DX company member, loving mother, devoted friend, and always an advocate that everyone dance as much as possible. This full-tuition scholarship, generously funded by Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario, is awarded to a participant who mirrors Shula's dedication to creative aging and/or who shares a connection to her Jewish identity, which played a significant role in her creative practice. Register for Winter Institute by Dec. 15 to be considered for the scholarship.
