2023 Dance On Festival Schedule

This year, you can join the Dance On Festival In-Person or Online.

We’re offering two Festival tracks to make it possible for older adults, artists, caregivers, and creative aging leaders to join us, no matter where they are or how they prefer to participate.

In-Person Festival Schedule

Friday, May 19, 2023

6:00pm EST | In-Person Festival Performance

This kickoff performance celebrates aging and intergenerational exchange on stage. The evening features performances from KanKouran West African Dance Company, Quicksilver, Verbal Gymnastics, and Dance Exchange.

Audience members may purchase a ticket to the Festival Performance separately or in combination with registration for the Saturday In-Person Track. The performance will not be recorded.

MOVE with Fyness Mason & Maggie Waller

Join artists from Rennie Harris Puremovement, a professional street dance theater company, to celebrate aging through street dance.

MAKE with John Johnson & Verbal Gymnastics

Experience Playback Theatre, an interactive, improvisational art form that gives the microphone to the people and honors the “storyteller” by retelling audience members’ stories through movement, dance, and acting. Playback Theatre evokes empathy, builds bridges, and can be used in a variety of settings, such as exploring conflict resolution, team building, and adapting to organizational change.

GATHER with Creative Aging Artists and Leaders

Hear stories, discoveries, and perspectives on the past, present, and future of creative aging from Playback Theatre artist Gregory Ford; songwriter, dancer, and theater artist Nobuko Miyamoto; and Dance Exchange Executive Artistic Director Cassie Meador in a panel conversation hosted by Dance Exchange Partnering Artist Chisao Hata. The Gather session will be livestreamed via Zoom for everyone.

In-Person Festival participants can view the livestream from Dance Exchange or from their own home.

Join older adults, artists, caregivers, and creative aging leaders across the country to kick off the 2023 Dance On Festival’s online programming. Hosted by Dance Exchange Associate Director of Programs Amanda Newman and Partnering Artist Chisao Hata.

Join CJay Philip and a member of Dance & Bmore’s Elder Ensemble to get your body moving with a celebratory movement class that draws on practices Dance & Bmore uses to engage movers of all ages.

Experience music, dance, stories, and video from FandangObon, an Eco-Arts Festival building cross-cultural solidarity through participatory music and dance from Latinx, Asian, African and Muslim traditions.
