Meet Co|Lab at DX

There are many ways you can gather, move, and make at Dance Exchange this summer—including Co|Lab! But what exactly is Co|Lab? Read on to learn more and register today.

What is Co|Lab?
Co|Lab is Dance Exchange’s community choreography laboratory. During Co|Lab, we invite local artists and community members of all backgrounds, ages 18+, to collaborate alongside Dance Exchange artists. In past years, this collaboration has taken place in the studio and has been shared on stage. But, new in 2021, we’re Co|Labing via Zoom!

This year’s Co|Lab connects to Dance Exchange’s new performance project Future Fields, which explores how food is, or could be, grown and experienced in a changing world.

When is Co|Lab?
Co|Lab is a four-week experience that starts Wednesday, June 9. Most weeks, you’ll only be meeting once per week. See all the dates and times here.

Will I get to perform as part of Co|Lab?
Yes! Co|Lab is focused on the process of making and sharing new work. This year, we’ll be creating new dances in our various home spaces and the outdoor spaces that surround them. That means that we’ll be diving into how to film, edit, and share new dance works online.

Do I need previous dance experience?
Nope! All participants ages 18+ are welcome, no matter your previous dance experience. Dance Exchange believes dance is for everybody and every body.

Who is leading Co|Lab?
Co|Lab will be led by the creative co-directors of Future Fields, Executive Artistic Director Cassie Meador, and Partnering Artists Dr. Jamē McCray and Christina Catanese. Also joining the Co|Lab team is Partnering Artist Vinny Mwano who will guide participants through filming, editing, and sharing their dances.

What if I have other questions?
Please reach out to registration@danceexchange.org.

We can’t wait to see you at Co|Lab!
