Community and Creative Hub @ DX: Word Dance Theater
In this blog series, we highlight some of the remarkable artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and community members who move and make in our studios. These individuals and groups help make the Community and Creative Hub @ DX the vibrant, multi-disciplinary, creative space that it is.
This week, meet Word Dance Theater, which creates innovative performances and educational experiences for youth and adults based in the legacy of Isadora Duncan. Read on to hear how the Community and Creative Hub @ DX has supported their work.
How long have you been engaged in the Dance Exchange community?
WDT has been renting from Dance Exchange since 2017, so we're in our 5th year
What's your favorite thing about being connected to Dance Exchange's Community and Creative Hub?
We love the kindness this community shares during and between rentals, in addition to the intentionality of community building by Dance Exchange management.
How has being part of Dance Exchange’s Community and Creative Hub supported your growth as an artist and entrepreneur?
We love the location and flexibility that the space provides in addition to the people that we meet. It's always so great to see fellow movers in the space and for our students to see other kinds of movement through the windows. It demonstrates that we're all a part of a larger community of movers and creators.
How can our Dance Exchange community connect with you and your work right now?
You can learn more about our classes at www.worddance.org/education. Word Dance Theater is dedicated to being a world-class organization that invites people from all walks of life into our unique Isadora Duncan-inspired philosophy, methodology, and aesthetic of dance. Our approach blends music, theater, poetry, and visual art with holistic dance movements that unite us with the full range of our emotions and restores us to our roots: the breath, energy, strength, beauty, spirit, community, and freedom that is the birthright of all people. We offer seasonal classes in the Duncan legacy to youth and adults in the DC Metro Area.
